Routing rules: which store each device gets
Last updated
Jumper looks at the device and picks the first match in this order: iPhone, iPad, Huawei, Samsung, other Android, Windows, Mac, everything else. A device without its own destination inherits from the next one down, then the fallback.
The order and what each device inherits
| Device | Uses, in this order |
|---|---|
| iPhone | iPhone destination, then fallback |
| iPad | iPad destination, then iPhone, then fallback |
| Huawei | Huawei AppGallery, then Android, then fallback |
| Samsung | Galaxy Store, then Android, then fallback |
| Other Android | Google Play, then fallback |
| Windows | Microsoft Store, then fallback |
| Mac | Mac App Store, then fallback |
| Everything else | Fallback |
With no destination and no fallback, the visitor gets your Jumper app page: your app’s icon and name, the official store badges, a QR code and, on desktop, a form that sends the link to their phone. A phone that has a matching store never sees that page.
What the visitor gets
- Normal browsers: an HTTP 302 straight to the store, no page in between, never cached and never a cookie.
- In-app browsers: a route that works inside Instagram, TikTok and others; see In-app browsers.
- Link previews and crawlers: a small page with your app’s title, icon and description. Not counted as a click.
- Query strings:
utm_*values are recorded in your statistics and forwarded to your fallback website, never to the stores, which drop them.
The exact addresses are on Store URL formats.
Questions
What does an iPad get?
The iPad destination if you set one, otherwise the iPhone destination. iPadOS Safari reports itself as a Mac, so Jumper also uses the touch screen to tell an iPad from a Mac.
What happens when no destination matches and there is no fallback?
Visitors land on your Jumper app page, with your app’s icon, name and official store badges, plus a QR code and a “send to my phone” form on desktop.
Do link previews and crawlers get redirected?
No. Link preview bots such as those of Slack, WhatsApp, Facebook and iMessage get a small page with your app’s title, icon and description, and the visit is not counted as a click.
