Instagram App Store link not working?
Last updated
Instagram opens links in its own browser, and on iPhone that browser does not open App Store links: people who tap your link see a blank or broken page. The fix is a link that notices Instagram’s browser and gives them one button that opens the App Store app. A free Jumper link does that, and sends Android phones to Google Play.
Why it happens
When someone taps a link in your bio, a post, a story or a DM, Instagram does not hand it to Safari. It opens its own in-app browser. That browser does not pass apps.apple.com links on to the App Store app, so your carefully placed “Download” link goes nowhere. It is not your link that is broken; it is where it is opened.
The fix, in three steps
- Create a free Jumper link: paste your App Store or Google Play URL and Jumper fills in the rest.
- Put the Jumper link in your Instagram bio, story link stickers and DMs instead of the store URL.
- Tap it from Instagram on your own iPhone. You will see your app’s icon and an “Open in App Store” button; one tap opens the App Store.
What your followers see
| Phone | Plain App Store link | Jumper link |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone, Instagram | Blank page or a web listing that does nothing | One-tap page: “Open in App Store” opens the App Store app |
| Android, Instagram | An App Store page they cannot use | Google Play opens directly |
| Anyone else (desktop, tablet) | The App Store web page | Your website or your Jumper app page |
Without Jumper: open it in Safari
Anyone can leave Instagram’s browser: tap ··· at the top right and choose Open in browser. Safari then opens the App Store normally. Most people never find that menu, which is why the button matters.

Questions
Why is my App Store link not working on Instagram?
Instagram opens links in its own in-app browser. On iPhone that browser does not pass apps.apple.com links to the App Store app, so people who tap your link see a blank or broken page instead of your app.
How do I fix the App Store link in my Instagram bio?
Put a link in your bio that detects Instagram’s browser and gives people a button that opens the App Store app with one tap. A free Jumper link does this, and it also sends Android phones to Google Play and everyone else to your website.
Can people just open the link in Safari?
Yes: tap ··· at the top right of Instagram’s browser and choose “Open in browser”. Most people do not know this, which is why the one-tap button matters. Jumper’s page shows these steps too.
Does the same problem affect Google Play links on Android?
Less often. Jumper asks Android to open the Play Store app directly from Instagram’s browser and falls back to the Google Play web page if that is refused.
Is it the same for links in Instagram DMs and stories?
Links in DMs, posts and story link stickers open in the same in-app browser, so they have the same problem and Jumper handles them the same way. See the test results for each entry point.
