In-app browser test results

Last updated

Does a Jumper link reach the App Store and Google Play when it is tapped inside another app? Each cell below is an app on one phone OS. Real-phone results, with the date they were tested, decide pass or fail. Until a cell has one, it shows what Jumper sends to that app’s browser, checked automatically on every code change.

Last real-phone test: . Matrix updated . Why links break and what Jumper does: In-app browsers and app store links.

What Jumper does in each app

AppiPhoneAndroid
InstagramInstagram’s browser does not open the App Store from a normal link. Jumper shows a one-tap page: the visitor taps “Open in App Store” and the App Store app opens.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly. If Instagram refuses, the Play page opens in the browser instead.
FacebookSame as Instagram: a one-tap page with an “Open in App Store” button, plus how to open the link in Safari.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly, with the Play web page as the fallback.
MessengerA one-tap page with an “Open in App Store” button, like Facebook.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly, with the Play web page as the fallback.
TikTokTikTok has no “Open in browser” option. Jumper’s one-tap page leads with the button and a “Copy link” box for pasting into Safari.Jumper hands the Google Play link to Chrome, which opens Google Play. TikTok is known to block the usual way of opening the Play app.
LinkedInA one-tap page with an “Open in App Store” button and LinkedIn’s way to open the link in the browser.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly, with the Play web page as the fallback.
XWhen X opens links in its own browser, Jumper shows the one-tap page. When X uses Safari’s in-app view, the App Store opens directly.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly, with the Play web page as the fallback.
SnapchatA one-tap page with an “Open in App Store” button and how to open the link in Safari.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly, with the Play web page as the fallback.
TelegramTelegram usually opens links in Safari’s in-app view, where the App Store opens directly. Its own browser gets the one-tap page.Jumper asks Android to open Google Play directly, with the Play web page as the fallback.
WhatsAppWhatsApp opens links in Safari, so the App Store opens directly. Nothing to rescue.WhatsApp opens links in Chrome, which opens Google Play directly.
GmailGmail opens links in Safari’s in-app view (or Chrome, if you chose it), so the App Store opens directly.Gmail opens links in Chrome, which opens Google Play directly.

How we test

  • On real phones, monthly: a Jumper link with both stores is tapped from a bio link, a DM, a post or comment, and a story in each app. We record the result, the app version and the exact OS build.
  • Automatically, on every code change: each app’s browser identity is sent through the Jumper redirect, and the test fails if the answer differs from the “Jumper sends” line above. This proves what Jumper sends, not whether the app then lets the store open; that is what the phone tests are for.
